Licensed Bed and Breakfast Accommodation with optional Evening Meal
on a Working Farm in a Conservation Area
Description
Home Farm is situated approximately 4 miles from Hawes and 15 miles
from Leyburn, off the A683, in the small hamlet of Stalling Busk
in Wensleydale, overlooking Lake Semerwater. The area surroung
the lake is a conservation area for wild flowers and wildlife, with
wild deer frequenting the fields and hedges.
The
farmhouse is 17th century with beamed ceilings and log fires. It
has been traditionally refurbished with antique furniture and fittings,
downstairs in English Oak and upstairs in Antique Pine; Victorian
brass beds and patchwork quilts, collections of Victorian shaving
mugs, crewel and embroidery work, and many "Bits and Bobs"
of bygone years. Guests find the atmosphere homely and welcoming.
We
offer Bed and Breakfast with an optional evening meal. We make our
own bread and all the meals are prepared on our traditional Aga.
Our specialities include beef from our own farm, together with locally
reared lamb, pork, poultry, and game in season; even the eggs are
home produced.
Our favourite puddings such as:
- Treacle Pudding
- Spotted Dick
- Ginger Pear Pudding
- Plum Lattice Tart
- Bakewell Tart with custard
- and many more...
... are all home made.
A
suckler herd of Limousin cattle are kept and cross bred with the
Belgian Blue Bull. Our hobby is showing the best of the progeny
at local and county shows, the winning heifers being kept and then
served with a Limousin Bull.
Local Attractions
Wensleydale is situated in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, a
beautiful area designated to be left unspoilt now and for generations
to come. The network of country roads and footpaths gives access
to this spectacular countryside with such a rich variety of flora
and fauna.
The
Dales are rich in local attractions and Home Farm is an ideal
base from which to explore them.
For those interested in history, there are castles at Middleham,
Castle Bolton and Richmond. The waterfalls of the Dales are
a sight not to be missed, especially at Hardraw and Aysgarth. Experience
market day at Hawes or Leyburn, with the farmers bringing their
animals for sale and traders offering a variety of goods.
Fishing, bird watching and nature study, sailing, windsurfing,
canoeing, hang gliding or simply driving and walking through the
area can all amount to a memorable, relaxing holiday for people
of any age. Mountain bikes are available for the hale and hearty!
