Upper Wensleydale is situated in an area of the Pennine Uplands, with the M6 motorway to the West and the A1 to the East.

Transport
The local Tourist Information Centres (see below) have timetable details. Buses run up and down the dale from Hawes to Leyburn and further afield approximately every hour. The nearest railway station to Hawes is Garsdale, on the scenic Settle to Carlisle line - six miles away.
